block.one’s “Unique ID” is going to be bigger than the #Voice social network itself. It will enable a democracy of real individuals on the Internet where only manipulation existed before.

First there was the separation of money from State (Bitcoin). [2009]
Now there is the separation of identity from State (Unique ID). [2019]

Thanks for sharing your video. I actually don’t think this will be used that much. Even if it technically works. First of all: I wouldn’t use it myself. I do not see myself taking a selfie to be stored on a blockchain somewhere. No way. And second: I won’t see my friends do it. And from a technical perspective: GANs are getting so good in creating pictures that you need a neural network to see if the pictures are real or fake. This adds another layer of difficulty.

And another thing: Apps can verify these days if an Android app is running on a not-rooted device. So if Block One for example, would create an app that would check if I’m on a non-rooted Android phone they’re actually forcing their users to use official Google or Apple-software. Not a good idea. People deserve freedom in using rooted or non-rooted phones.

So while a lot of people are worried about face recognition (see: https://themindunleashed.com/2019/08/hong-kong-protesters-use-lasers-disrupt-facial-recognition.html) Block One is coming up with an idea to use face recognition for wallets and ID.

Don’t get me wrong: Dan has come up with quite some amazing ideas. But this isn’t one of them IMO. I prefer the Yubikey solution.

It is way more involved than just “a selfie”. It uses many approaches to verifying user identity. And if you are worried about “storing a selfie on a blockchain”, your selfie’s are already stored by every social media platform out there. Nothing you have on the Internet is hidden or private, no matter what social media giants lead you to believe. It’s a false sense of security. I think people will use Voice and the Unique ID because blockone will incentivize users to do so. It will be worth their while.
